The donation follows an appeal by the Directorate to tertiary institutions within the municipality to support schools with lightly-used computers to improve digital learning and equip students with essential technological skills.
Receiving the computers on behalf of the Directorate, the Ga East Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Eric Sey, expressed profound appreciation to the management of WIUC for their prompt response and commitment to education.
According to him, the University readily welcomed the request, invited officials of the Directorate to inspect the available computers, and pledged its support to the initiative.
“We are very grateful to the management of Wisconsin International University College for this generous gesture. We assure them that the computers will be put to good use to benefit learners across the municipality,” he stated.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the President of Wisconsin International University College, Dr. Lawrence Kannae, emphasized the growing importance of digital literacy in today's world and the need for students to acquire computing skills at an early age.
“Computing skills have become a basic requirement in the modern job market. It is therefore important for young people to develop these competencies early to remain competitive and take advantage of emerging opportunities,” Dr. Kannae noted.
He encouraged students to take ICT studies seriously, stressing that proficiency in computer technology could create income-generating opportunities even before they complete their education.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Hon. Edmund Agboh, also commended WIUC for the timely intervention and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to building a strong partnership with the institution.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration would continue to yield positive results for educational development in the municipality, noting that the University had indicated its readiness to support future initiatives.
Hon. Agboh described the donation as a significant contribution toward improving access to digital learning tools and preparing students for the demands of the digital age.
