The intervention brings an end to nearly six months of darkness that engulfed the community after the existing transformer developed a fault, disrupting economic activities and affecting the daily lives of residents.

The newly installed transformer forms part of a broader initiative by Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor to address electricity challenges in several communities across the constituency. Beneficiary communities under the programme include Akyempim, Simpa, Subriso, Timberland, Benso and others.

Addressing chiefs and elders during the presentation, Hon. Taylor disclosed that the provision of transformers was not part of his campaign promises. However, he explained that the persistent electricity challenges facing many communities had become a pressing concern, compelling him to intervene.

He noted that while the responsibility for electricity distribution lies primarily with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the prolonged hardships experienced by residents necessitated immediate action to restore power supply and improve living conditions.

The Member of Parliament revealed that the transformer supplied to Benso cost not less than GH¢100,000, describing the expenditure as a worthwhile investment in the welfare and development of the people.

The chiefs and elders of Benso expressed profound gratitude to the MP and the Municipal Assembly for responding to their plight. They commended the leadership shown in resolving a challenge that had lingered for months and appealed for an additional transformer to serve another section of the community.

The community leaders further urged the MP to engage the management of ECG to facilitate the transfer of Benso's operational supervision from the Sekondi District to the Tarkwa District, a move they believe would improve accessibility, efficiency and response times in addressing electricity-related concerns.

Responding to the request, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor assured the people of his commitment to their welfare and pledged to provide an additional transformer for the community before Friday, June 12, 2026.

He also promised to seek clarification from ECG's Head Office in Accra on the concerns raised regarding the current administrative arrangement and advocate for a solution that best serves the interests of the affected communities.

The restoration of electricity to Benso is expected to revive economic activities, enhance security and improve the quality of life of residents who endured months without power.
