63 NPP MPs root for Dr. Bawumia as the party elects a flagbearer

As the race for who leads the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the flagbearer for the 2028 Presidential election heats up, 63 NPP Members of Parliament have openly declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Declaring their support at a press conference in Parliament on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Mr Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Member of Parliament for Mampong who led the group noted that the New Patriotic Party has always risen on the shoulders of visionaries such as Danquah, Busia and Dombo, men who believed in freedom, democracy, rule of law and development through enterprise. "Today, that proud tradition finds new strength and purpose in Dr Mahamudu Bawumia".

They opined that Dr. Bawumia represents "our enduring spirit of the Party; visionary, resilient, diligent and pragmatic. From his days as a brilliant economist at Bank of Ghana to his service as Vice President, Or Bawumia has proven that leadership is not about words but work, not about entitlement but excellence and delivery."

Dr Bawumia, the group noted is a leader who respects the party's history yet reimagines the future. "He has walked with the NPP through every season of victory and challenge, serving faithfully, defending our record and carrying our message with conviction and grace. He has been tested, trusted and proven".

He has brought clarity to governance, inspired innovation and built systems that work through Ghana’s digital transformation, financial inclusion and modernization of public service delivery.

They affirmed that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not just the candidate who can unite the Party; but the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond. Thus, they urged the delegates across the country to rally behind him, and ensure he secures the slot come January 31, 2025.

It is worth stating that already, two other MPs from the NPP are also in the race including Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and it is interesting how their colleagues decided to openly support another.
