Ahafo Regional Capital Marks 2024 Green Ghana Day

The Ahafo Regional capital, Goaso marks the 4th Edition of the Green Ghana campaign held at the forecourt of the Omanhene’s palace on Friday 7th June, 2024

The Green Ghana Day initiative was introduced by the government in 2021, focusing on aggressive afforestation and reforestation programmes to restore the country's degraded forest cover.

Nana Poku Bosompem, Forestry Service Divisional Manager, Ahafo Region briefed the house the purpose of the gathering. He said, the Green Ghana Campaign came into existence from 2021 to date, He noted. He stated emphatically that since the introduction of the initiative over 3.8 million trees have been planted within Ahafo.

Again the various security services such Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service also made the people understand the need for the campaign.

They encourage everyone to be part of this campaign in the subsequent years. ACFO II Percy Odoi Annan, Ahafo Fire Commander also charged the various contractors to water the trees consistently so that it can flourish to beautify Goaso Township in the near future.

Mr. Fritz Mensah, Ahafo Regional Ministers Representative also highlighted the need to plant more trees because when the last tree dies, the last man also dies, He noted. Again, He advised that the Green Ghana campaign shouldn’t end here and everyone has a role to play as far as reforestation is concerned.

The final keynote by Nana Akwasi Bosomprah I, Goaso Manhene also made it known that the Green Ghana Campaign has come to stay and everyone must rally behind it.

Nana again said, the Goaso Traditional Council and the good people of Goaso have embraced the initiative and are ever ready to help the government in this campaign because the Municipality has benefited a lot since its initiative. He finally thanked everyone for making the programme a success.

The key personalities of the programme were Nana Akwasi Bosomprah I, Goaso Manhene, Mr Fritz Mensah, and Regional Minister’s Representative, ACP James Annor, Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Nana Poku Bosompem, Forestry Service Divisional Manager Ahafo Region, ACFO II Percy Odoi Annan, Ahafo Regional Fire Commander and other dignitaries.

The programme brought together Staff from the various government institutions, Departments and Agencies such as, Ahafo Region Coordinating Council, Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Forestry Commission, Pupils from various Basic and Senior High Schools, The Media partners, Lands Commission, Ministry of Agriculture and many others

Others were the security services like, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Goaso Traditional Council were also part of the campaign.
