The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, highlighted the significance of Green Ghana Day as a vital step towards combating climate change and fostering environmental stewardship.

He emphasized the role of trees in improving air quality, reducing erosion, and enhancing the overall ecosystem. “Our environment is our heritage, and it is our collective responsibility to protect and preserve it for future generations” He stated.

We must all contribute to this cause, not just as individuals, but as a united community” he remarked.

The event featured several activities, including the ceremonial planting of trees by the dignitaries, and community members.

Participants were provided with various seedlings, ranging from economic trees like mango to ornamental species, encouraging biodiversity and the potential for economic benefits.

In addition to tree planting, educational sessions were conducted to raise awareness about the importance of trees and practical tips for their care and maintenance.

These sessions aimed to empower participants with the knowledge to sustain their tree-planting efforts and ensure the long-term success of the initiative.

Green Ghana Day is part of a broader government strategy to restore Ghana’s forest cover, which has been significantly depleted over the years due to activities such as logging and urbanization.
