President Mahama Cuts Sod for 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Juapong

President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Juapong in the North Tongu District, marking the start of a major infrastructure project aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing commercial activities in the Volta Region.

The sod-cutting ceremony formed part of the President's two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta Region, during which he reaffirmed the government's commitment to delivering transformational development projects across the country.

Addressing residents, traditional leaders, traders, and other stakeholders, President Mahama described the proposed market as a modern economic hub that will support farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. He explained that the facility will go beyond traditional market operations by providing essential infrastructure for storage, processing, packaging, distribution, digital commerce, and access to financial services.

The President noted that the project forms part of the government's broader strategy to strengthen local economies, increase productivity, and promote sustainable employment opportunities.

He also reiterated the government's commitment to accelerating development in the Volta Region through strategic investments in key sectors, including road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, transport, markets, and agro-industrial development.

President Mahama highlighted Juapong's strategic location and economic potential, expressing confidence that the town is well-positioned to become a major commercial and industrial hub within the region.

The Juapong Model Market is one of the flagship projects under the government's 24-Hour Economy programme and has been classified as a Category Four Market—the highest classification under the initiative. The designation underscores the project's importance in advancing regional economic transformation and supporting the government's vision of expanding opportunities for businesses and improving livelihoods.
