Speaking at the event, Mr. Gunu urged members of the Association to contribute their “widow’s mite” to ensure the early completion of the project, describing it as a symbol of the identity, legacy, and spirit of the GJA in the region.

He stressed the importance of shared responsibility in completing the project. “No contribution is too small. Every effort counts towards making this press centre a reality.”

“Let us show by example by contributing to the project before inviting the business community for support. Let us do it together, so that together we can be proud,” he said.

The Minister appealed to development partners, businesses, and individuals both within and outside the region to contribute, noting that the aim is to commission the facility on May 3, 2026, to coincide with World Press Freedom Day.

To demonstrate his personal commitment, the Minister donated 100 bags of cement, 1,000 pieces of concrete blocks, two trips of sand, one trip of chippings, and GH¢20,000.00 to the project.

Mr. Gunu urged the committee to oversee the completion of the project to be proactive and transparent in their work. “We must change our attitude and commit ourselves to action. If other regions can mobilize quickly, so can we,” he said.

In his welcome address, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, Chairman of the Volta GJA, described the event as a celebration of their collective efforts and a crucial step in advancing the Association’s mission.

“Together, we can make a significant impact and drive positive change,” he stated. Dr. Belley said upon completion, the Press Centre would include a 120-seater conference room, two executive offices, a boardroom, and a reception area, among other essential facilities.

He credited the Ho Office of Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) for designing the project.

He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors for their efforts in bringing the project to its current stage.

Immediate Past Volta/Oti GJA Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Agbaxode, also pledged his full support and encouraged his colleagues to remain committed to seeing the project completed.

Numerous pledges, both in cash and kind, were made by individuals and members of the business community to support the initiative.

A nine-member Project Management Committee, chaired by Dr Belley was inaugurated to oversee and steer the affairs of the project.

The project is scheduled for completion in May 2026.
