The engagement forms part of the government’s broader agenda to stimulate local economic growth by creating an environment for continuous trading and business activities. The proposed market aims to boost commercial operations in the municipality while offering more opportunities for traders and residents.
Traders Raise Key Concerns
The meeting served as a platform for dialogue, allowing traders to voice their views, concerns, and expectations. Among the issues they highlighted as critical to the project’s success were:
Improved and well-structured trading spaces
Enhanced security systems
Proper sanitation facilities
Better accessibility for both traders and customers
Traders also stressed the need for adequate lighting and essential services to support round-the-clock trading. They noted that such measures would improve working conditions, attract more customers, boost incomes, and sustain livelihoods.
The MCE assured the traders that their inputs would play a vital role in shaping the final design and implementation of the project. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the new market meets users’ needs while aligning with the government’s vision of a vibrant 24-hour economy.
Mr. Owusu Boakye explained that the proposed market would feature modern infrastructure and facilities to promote efficiency, safety, and convenience. The initiative is expected to transform trading activities in the municipality, making it more competitive and economically resilient.
He emphasised that the project is not just about infrastructure—it is about empowering local businesses and creating sustainable employment opportunities. Successful implementation, he said, would contribute significantly to socio-economic development in New Juaben South.
Assembly Calls for Continued Cooperation
Assembly officials also encouraged traders to remain cooperative throughout the planning and implementation phases. They stressed that sustained engagement and collaboration would be essential to delivering a market that truly serves all stakeholders.
Traders, in turn, expressed appreciation for being involved in the decision-making process, noting that such engagements build trust and demonstrate genuine commitment from authorities.
A Shared Sense of Optimism
The interaction ended on a positive note, with both the Assembly and traders reaffirming their commitment to working together to bring the project to fruition, and expressing shared optimism about the future of trading in the municipality.
