Development Goals

The development goals for the Municipality are as follows
1.    Improve Municipal micro economy
2.    Reduce unemployment in the Municipality

3.    Increase agricultural production

4.    Arrest falling standard of education
5.    Making all human settlements more accessible
6.    Improve health status of the people in the Municipality
7.    Reduce degradation of the environment.
8.    Improve care for the vulnerable and excluded
9.   Initiate innovative programme in collaboration with stakeholders to advance status of women and children.
10. make local governance more effective by strengthening the Assembly’s sub-structures

PROJECT AREA

The project is expected to be sited or located on a 2,000 Acre Land to be reclaimed from the lagoon between Keta and Tegbi which would provide scenic environment or atmosphere. The Keta Lagoon is the largest in West Africa with a surface water area of 300km2 which is located in a larger wetlands protected area of 1200km2. It is a stopping point for a large number of migratory birds and provides a breeding ground for sea turtles at the coast. The construction of well-decorated and equipped conference centre on a reclaimed land would provide serene environment that would give you the comfort to express yourself to the fullest with magnificent garden seats where a unique ambiance would be created as much as possible development will conforms to the permissible laws of the wetland and the Environmental Protection Agency.

FACILITIES

The facilities expected to be at the Center includes the following:
i)    State of the Art Conference Centre with a sitting capacity of 1,500-people and five (5) committee meeting rooms with a sitting capacity of 150 people each.
ii)    Construction of 2No. 5-star Hotels with 200 rooms each.
iii)    Construction of 2No. 4-star Hotels with 150 rooms each
iv)    Shopping Mall
v)    Banks

For large-scale conferences, seminars, business meetings and prestigious social events, there is no doubt that when these facilities are in place, the Keta International and Business Centre would be one of the finest venues in the Volta Region and Ghana for doing business.

PROJECT COST

The project is expected to cost about Three Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars          (US$ 350,000,000.00).

Dredging and reclaiming of 3,500 acres of land from the lagoon to cost Seventy-Five Million Dollars (US$ 75M).

Construction of State of the Art Conference Centre with a sitting capacity of 1,500-people and five (5) committee meeting rooms with a sitting capacity of 150 people each at a total cost of One Hundred and Seventy Million Dollars (US$ 170M).

Construction of 2No. 5-star Hotels with 200 rooms each at a total cost of Two Hundred Million Dollars (US$ 200M).

Construction of 2No. 4-star Hotels with 150 rooms each at a total cost of One Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars (US$ 150M).

Provision of Utility (i.e Water and Electricity) and construction of road network to cost Seventy-Five Million Dollars (US$ 75M).

The project would be funded by a consortium to be arranged or any other interest of investor.

BENEFITS

It is expected that a project such as what is envisaged in Keta with an International dimension will bring the following to the country:

Create employment to thousands of people

Reduce pressure considerably on other cities with its attendant reduction in the cost of the day business

With Keta being closer to Accra and strategically located, it will benefit groups and businesses which want ideal place to organize their meetings and conferences.

It is expected to act as catalyst for the Volta Region development focus.

With Keta being closer to Togo and Benin, a center like what is being envisaged will attract these countries to do business.

Bring Keta back to its original status as once a regional capital of the Volta Region.

CONCLUSION

The natural landscape in Keta with the attraction of Keta Lagoon and scenic attraction renders it as a dominant unique environment in Ghana. The long stretches of attractive sandy and sparkling golden beaches make it so exceptional.

Moreover, the historical, cultural heritage of Fort Prezenstein, colourful festival and folklore of traditional people with warm reception are evident in all corners of the Keta Municipality. The construction of an International Conference and Business Centre will make Keta exceptional catch and destination in the sub-region.
