"It's not enough to respond; we must prepare," he stressed.

He made the remarks after a severe rainstorm swept through the Suhum Constituency, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Addressing a section of the media in Parliament on Monday, the MP said the storm affected five schools, 28 residential buildings, six shops, and displaced 444 people.

He cited the market, GHANATA, public, Islamic and Roman school buildings as some of the affected places.

He described the incident as "a painful reminder of how vulnerable we remain when disaster strikes" and called for tents, mattresses for the affected homes and roofing sheets for the five affected schools.

Mr. Asiedu Bekoe further appealed for funding to cover the repair and restoration of damaged buildings and essential facilities.

He also thanked emergency responders for their efforts but stressed that more needed to be done to support affected communities.

"Now more than ever, we are on our own. Our people have lost significant investments, properties, and other communal amenities. If we don't act now, we will all remain at risk for a very long time," he said.

To mitigate the impact of future disasters, Mr. Asiedu Bekoe told the media that he had initiated two projects: Operation Re-Roof Suhum, aimed at providing new roofing for hard-hit communities, and a project to plant windbreak trees across vulnerable parts of the constituency.

These initiatives, he said, were part of a broader climate initiative to safeguard families, homes, and livelihoods.

The NPP Suhum Legislator also called on the government to conduct a policy review of intervention measures, ensuring that relief was provided immediately after calamities.

"While we remain hopeful of public and government support, we hope the government will conduct a policy review of intervention measures, ensuring that relief is given immediately post-calamities such as ours," he said.
