Speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the MCE described Kasoa as a fast growing urban space that is bedeviled with numerous challenges such as sanitation, crime, improper settlements among others.
However, to help fix these challenges, the young MCE believes the assembly is now engaging and working closely with all stakeholders as well as using the dialogue tool in key decision makings to mitigate these challenges and foster development in the municipality.
Touching on how to properly tackle issues of sanitation in Kasoa, the MCE revealed that the assembly through his efforts had earlier set-up an emergency sanitation team to handle waste, especially in the central business district of Kasoa.
This, he said, was in response to a temporary strike action by workers of zoom-lion.
Meanwhile, in conformity with the President’s directive to terminate the central allocation of contract with waste management giants, Zoom-Lion Ghana Limited in a bid to help decentralize waste management in the country, the MCE says the assembly has been engaging some private waste managers to take-up waste management responsibility in the area.
He revealed that the assembly is still accessing and going through proposals received from potential waste managers to settle on one that fits the purpose to ensure that the assembly is able to provide good sanitary conditions for the municipality.
Aside this, he again revealed that, through his intervention and close collaboration with some private investors, the assembly has also secured a new location to serve as a final dumping site for the municipality and other adjoining districts.
Prior to this intervention, the MCE said, it could take between four to five hours to shuttle waste from pick-up points to the final dumping sites.
