Agona Abodom chiefs lament bad road networks, threaten demonstration

The Chiefs and people of Agona Abodom in the Agona West Municipality of the Central region have expressed concern about the bad road network, which was hindering trade, commencement and other activities in the area.

cording to the chiefs, several appeals have been made to the government to reconstruct the road to facilitate the transportation gf farm produce to market centres at Agona Swedru, Winneba and Awutu Bawjiase, but to no avail.

Nana Owirow XIV, the Regent of Agona Abodom, said all avenues to seek solution to the problem had been exhausted and that the only option for the chiefs and people was to stage demonstration against the government, which he said was not the best, calling for immediate action to ease their plight.

He was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Abodom to climax this year’s annual Akwambo festival.

‘’Our pregnant women are getting miscarriages due to the bad nature of our roads and our vehicles break down rampantly resulting in overcharged lorry fares by drivers plying the road,’’ he said.

Nana Owirow also lamented about a protracted chieftaincy dispute lingering in the town, which had thwarted efforts of the people to make progress in developmental projects.

The Regent called on the king makers and other stakeholders, particularly Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council to help find a lasting solution to the dispute by installing a substantive Chief for Abodom to ensure infrastructural and human transformation.

He called for co-operation and mutual understanding among the inhabitants, adding that the only panacea for the progress of the town was to seek absolute unity.

Nana Kusi Obrempong X, Tufuhene of Agona Abodom and the Akwambo Planning Committee Chairman, called on the residents of the town both home and abroad to contribute their quota towards the development of the town.

He said this year’s festival was aimed at raising funds to help complete the town’s community centre and other projects to give Abodom a facelift.

Mr. Chris Arthur, Agona West Parliamentary Candidate for New Patriotic Party, gave the assurance that the government was poised to undertake massive road infrastructural works, hence the introduction of ‘’District Road Improve Project, (DRIP)’’ to fix all bad roads in the Municipality.

He said the Agona West Municipal Assembly had taken delivery of road construction machines recently distributed by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that all bad road networks were fixed to enhance trade and commerce in the area.

Mr. Arthur reiterated calls on the chiefs and people of Abodom to vote massively for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as president and for him as Member of Parliament for Agona West to continue the good works that will insure to their benefit.

Mrs Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, NDC parliamentary Candidate for Agona West, urged the people and chiefs to cast their ballots for John Dramani Mahama, NDC Presidential Candidate, and vote her as Member of Parliament to help ease the economic hardship facing them due bad administration of the New Patriotic Party government.
