The decision, among other things, was aimed at ensuring a clean environment for healthy living, as well as cutting down huge expenditures associated with the celebration as directed by the Presidency.

This was announced by Mr. Emmanuel Ikpe Quacou, the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Assembly after an engagement with the media ahead of the celebrations, stated that the move was a recommendation by the Anniversary Technical Committee for Akatsi South.

He indicated that the exercise, in collaboration with the Akatsi South Education Directorate, Assembly Members, Security personnel, Zoomlion, and others, would be climaxed with a free health screening with support from health officials from St Paul’s Hospital Limited, a private health facility at Akatsi.

Mr. Ikpe Quacoe further explained that the exercise was expected to record full participation from all residents of the Municipality, adding “It is not only for students or the Education Directorate, but all must get involved in cleaning our environments.”

He added that the exercise would commence by 0700 hours and would end at 1000 hours on Thursday where participants would converge at the ARS Basic School premises for the commemorative speech after the exercise.

In a related development, Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, has disclosed that a total of 20 Schools involving only JHS and SHS with five students from each school, would take part in the exercise.

He, however, explained that the remaining students would be in school to carry out the clean-up exercise in their respective schools before departing home.

Mr. Ayaana also indicated that staff from the Education Directorate would be freely screened on the event day before extending the same to all basic schools across the Municipality subsequently.

This year’s anniversary is on the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset.”

The national event would also be held at the Jubilee House following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to cut government spending amid ongoing economic challenges.
