Speaking at the confirmation ceremony of Rev. Martin Prince Amenaki as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu North, Mr. Agbana made a heartfelt appeal to traditional leaders to unite and put aside differences in the interest of progress and prosperity for their people.
According to Mr. Agbana, ongoing disputes over legitimate leadership in some communities have made it difficult for political authorities to implement development projects without being accused of taking sides.
“Sometimes, we want to pursue development, invite investors, or initiate infrastructure projects in a community, but the presence of unresolved chieftaincy disputes makes it difficult. It discourages us, because we don’t want to be seen as favouring one faction over the other,” he said.
He emphasised that as political leaders, they have no role in determining who becomes a chief, nor do they have the power to legitimize any traditional authority.
“That’s not our mandate. But unfortunately, when these disputes linger, they spill into our space and affect the very people we are all trying to serve," he added.
Mr. Agbana urged the traditional leaders in Ketu North to rise above conflicts and personal differences and rather rally behind a common purpose — the development of their communities.
He said: “Our people are hungry for development. They want roads, schools, water, and jobs. We cannot deliver these things if we are divided. I am appealing to all chiefs, especially those in areas with unresolved disputes, to find a way to resolve them. Let’s put Ketu North first.”
He further assured the chiefs and residents of his continued dedication to development and promised to work closely with the newly confirmed MCE to accelerate growth in all sectors.
“As your MP, I am ready to go every length to bring development to this constituency, but I need the full backing of our traditional leaders. Unity among the chiefs is critical for us to move forward,” he said.
Rev. Martin Prince Amenaki, in his acceptance speech, echoed the MP’s sentiments, pledging to work hand in hand with all traditional leaders, regardless of affiliation, to ensure inclusive and holistic development.
"Development cannot thrive in disunity. I am committed to engaging every chief, every community, and every stakeholder to make Ketu North a model municipality," he said.
Rev. Amenaki’s confirmation was marked by overwhelming support, with all 55 Assembly Members, including government appointees, voting unanimously in his favor.
The call for unity among chiefs in Ketu North has become even more crucial as the municipality gears up for new developmental initiatives under the leadership of Rev. Amenaki and with the continued efforts of MP Edem Agbana.
Both leaders emphasised that development should not be held hostage by disputes and appealed for traditional leadership to embrace peace, collaboration, and progress in the interest of the people they serve.
The confirmation ceremony was attended by chiefs, queen mothers, religious leaders, Assembly Members, party executives, and residents, all of whom expressed high hopes for a new era of cooperation and growth in Ketu North.
