Birim North District Assembly Hands Over Nissan Navara Pickup to Blue Water Guards in Fight Against Galamsey
The Birim North District Assembly has intensified its fight against illegal mining with the official handing over of a Nissan Navara pickup vehicle to the Blue Water Guards to boost their operations in protecting water bodies and the environment.

The vehicle, donated by Mr. Isaac Mensah, was received by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Hakeem Antwi Abdul, and subsequently presented to the Blue Water Guards to strengthen their patrols, monitoring, and rapid response activities.
The ceremony, chaired by The Abiremhene, Obrempong Kwasi Amoh Kyeretwie I, highlighted the devastating effects of galamsey on livelihoods, farmlands, and water resources. He reaffirmed the strong commitment of H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana to ending illegal mining and called for collective support to safeguard the environment.
Earlier, the Small-Scale Mining Chairman, Mr. Solomon, condemned the greed of individuals engaged in illegal mining, stressing that their actions undermine responsible miners and destroy natural resources. He called for stricter enforcement and collective responsibility to protect the environment for future generations.
Explaining his motivation, Mr. Isaac Mensah said his donation was driven by deep concern for environmental degradation and a desire to support practical interventions that will strengthen the fight against galamsey.
In his remarks, Hon. Hakeem Antwi Abdul reiterated the dangers posed by illegal mining and emphasized that logistics such as the pickup truck will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Blue Water Guards and allied security agencies. The Police Commander also assured residents of intensified collaboration with the Guards to clamp down on galamsey activities across the district.
The ceremony was attended by the DCE, Deputy District Coordinating Director, NDC Constituency Chairman, Small-Scale Mining Chairman, and heads of security services, demonstrating a united front in the fight against illegal mining.
The District Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development initiatives for the benefit of all residents.
