The project will refurbish classroom blocks for KG1, KG2, Class One, and Class Two to improve the learning environment for the youngest pupils of the historic school.

The initiative was championed by the Assembly Member for the area, Sam Anthony Anoom, whose advocacy played a key role in securing the project.

Republic School, the first public school established in Tema, also houses the historic “Tor” Tree — the only surviving tree associated with the origin of the city’s name — making the renovation an important investment in both education and local heritage.
The project supports the objectives of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The intervention is being implemented under the leadership of Ebi Bright, Mayor of Tema, reflecting the Assembly’s commitment to improving education and community development. GNPC, which has operated in Tema for over four decades, is undertaking the project as part of its “40 Forward” initiative to enhance public infrastructure in communities where it operates.

According to the Assembly, the renovation works are expected to be completed within five weeks, providing improved learning facilities for present and future generations of pupils.
