The work of the MCE was stalled after series of demonstration and riot by some aggrieved NPP party activists in the Municipality.

They alleged that the MCE was not a recognized member of the party in the constituency and thus cannot take up such position. Their claims have however, been quashed by the President through the ministry of local government and rural development.

The President, in a statement, publicly backed her appointee and further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law by curbing the tension in Savelugu.

However, the dust seems to have settled as the MCE is expected to pay a courtesy call on the chiefs and opinion leaders of the municipality as she assumes office today. 

She occupies that position as first female MCE of the assembly.
