The initiative, which has received widespread commendation, was led by Afriwave Telecom Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr. Francis Poku and his team to improve hygiene and sanitary conditions for the students.

In addition to the upgraded washroom facilities, Afriwave Telecom has also installed a mechanized borehole to ensure a reliable supply of quality water for the school's daily needs.

This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to positively impact the lives of residents in the communities in which it operates.

St. Martins senior high school is a catholic government senior high school with student population of about 2,800 and one of the best second cycle schools in the Eastern Region.

In a speech, Mr. Poku highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, noting that this was not the first time Afriwave has engaged in such initiatives.

He stated that as a socially responsible organization, Afriwave believed in supporting schools within the communities where it operates by providing essential resources to enhance the well-being of students.

"A functional washroom is a basic requirement for hygiene in a school with a large student population,” he remarked, acknowledging that prior to these improvements, the conditions were dire.

He emphasized that public schools required additional infrastructure, and the construction of new washroom facilities along with the provision of clean water demonstrated Afriwave’s commitment to supporting quality education in Ghana and giving back to society.

Mr. Poku further noted that Afriwave Telecom has a strong interest in education, which he considered the backbone of every economy.

“That’s why we have dedicated our efforts to assisting schools in improving their infrastructure,” he said.

He urged the students to take their education seriously and to care for these new facilities, which designed to serve their needs and alleviate stress during their academic journey, quizzing, “Why destroy something that is beneficial to your own well-being.”

The Headmaster of St. Martins Senior High School, Mr. Paul A. Agbakpe, expressed gratitude to the management and staff of Afriwave Telecom for lifting a major burden from their shoulders.

He said providing functional washroom and urinal facilities had been one of his primary objectives since he assumed office.

He assured the stakeholders that he would take excellent care of the new facilities and called on corporate organizations to lend their support to the school in any way possible.
