Farmers protest destruction of farms at Agona Kwesi Twikrom

The affected farmers said the destruction of their farms had deprived them of their main source of livelihood, leaving many of them struggling to support their families.
According to the farmers, bulldozers were used to clear about 250 acres of farmland planted with various crops, including cocoa, coconut, orange, oil palm, cassava, maize, garden eggs and pepper.
They alleged that the bulldozers were accompanied by land guards dressed in military-style uniforms who were purportedly engaged to protect the operation.
Some elders of the Yogo No. 2 Family of Agona Asafo alleged that two family members, Messrs Yaw Nkum and Yaw Fosu, who claimed ownership of the land, sold it to the investor without the consent of the entire family.
Addressing a press conference to register their displeasure, Mr Albert Quainoo, a former Assembly Member for the Agona Kwesi Twikrom/Fawomanye Electoral Area and an affected farmer, said the destruction had thrown the community into a state of shock and dismay.
He said the affected farms had been providing food and income for the farmers and their families for several years, adding that their destruction had left the farmers without a means of livelihood.
Mr Quainoo alleged that Messrs Nkum and Fosu told the farmers that the investor would not compensate them because their crops were of little value.
He said the farmers depended entirely on their farms for their livelihoods, making their current situation extremely difficult.
Mr Quainoo further recounted that an 82-year-old woman, Madam Efua Yamoawaa, reportedly died from shock after learning that her coconut plantation had been destroyed by a
