WENCHI: Assembly Re-Elects Presiding Member for Second Term

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has re-elected the incumbent Presiding Member (PM), Hon. Henry Ameworwor, at a Special Meeting held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Assembly Hall.

Mr. Ameworwor, who also serves as the Assembly Member for the Pramaso-Twesease Electoral Area at Nkyeraa, secured thirty-seven (37) “Yes” votes and one (1) “No” vote out of thirty-eight (38) ballots cast, representing 84 per cent of votes by Assembly Members present. Four members were absent out of a total of forty-two (42) General Assembly members, comprising elected and appointed members.

The re-elected Presiding Member was sworn in by the Wenchi District Magistrate Court Judge, His Lordship Issah Abdul Wahab. He took the Oath of Office, Oath of Allegiance, and the Oath of Secrecy, after which he assumed his role and presided over proceedings.


Addressing the Assembly Members after his re-election, Hon. Ameworwor pledged to continue the unfinished business of the Assembly and called for increased cooperation among members to drive development in the municipality.

Prior to the election, the Municipal Coordinating Director and Secretary/Clerk to the General Assembly, Mr Charles Attah-Mensah, indicated that the election of the Presiding Member was the main business of the Special Meeting. He urged Assembly Members to adhere to the provisions of the law and ensure a smooth and transparent exercise.

Under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), a Presiding Member is elected by a two-thirds majority of Assembly Members. The position carries a two-year term, with eligibility for re-election.

The election was conducted by the Wenchi Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission, led by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Madam Christiana Opoku.

Present at the Special Meeting were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, Heads of Departments, representatives of the Muslim Council, Local Council of Churches, Security Council, and other stakeholders.
