The election, which was supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Afua Asomaning Korankyewaa, had 38 out of the Assembly’s 40 members in attendance. Per the electoral requirements, a candidate needed to obtain at least 27 votes, representing two-thirds of the full Assembly, to be elected.
In the first round of voting, Hon. Blessing Tretsu secured 14 votes, while Hon. Ebenezer Kweisah Kanye and Hon. Michael Osae each obtained 12 votes.
Following the tie between the two candidates, Hon. Ebenezer Kweisah Kanye stepped down from the race to allow the process to continue.
During the second round, Hon. Michael Osae obtained 20 votes, while Hon. Blessing Tretsu secured 18 votes. However, neither candidate met the constitutional threshold required for election.
As a result, the election has been adjourned for 10 working days to allow for further consultations before the next sitting.
The Assembly commended all stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and orderly process and expressed optimism for a successful outcome when the election reconvenes.
