The project which aims at improving capacities to support skills development and job creation in Ghana, provides opportunity for government through the ministry to enhance the capacity of the Labor Department at the national, regional and district levels.

This includes the development of the Ghana Labor Market Information System GLMIS and the construction of the Public Employment Centers to host it.

The centers which has one in each region are located in Kenyasi in the Ahafo region, Odumasi in the Bono region, Konongo in the Ashanti region, Twifo Hemang in the Central region, Akim Oda in the Eastern region, Amasaman in the Greater Accra region, Yendi in the Northern region and Walewale in the North East region.

Others are Dambai in the Oti region, Damongo in the Savannah region, Bolgatanga in the Upper East region, Wa in the Upper West region, Tarkwa in the Western region, Bibiani in the Western North region and Hohoe in the Volta region.

In a speech, the Hon. Minister said the project is in furtherance of the ‘agenda for jobs’ initiative of the New Patriotic Party government touching on a number of interventions over the years aimed at creating employment opportunities especially for the youth.

He expressed his excitement at the prospects of the GLMIS which he said will make job search easier by matching potential employers to job seekers adding that it will help gather employment data for effective decision making.

The Hon. Minister said data gathered by the system could also inform job market needs for training institutions like the universities.

The Bono East regional minister Hon. Kwasi Adu-Gyan hoped the opening of the centre will help curb the high incidence of illegal migration in the region and urged staff of the Labor Department in the municipality to work hard to justify the trust reposed in them.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Atebubu-Amantin municipal chief executive Hon. Edward Owusu said the provision of the centre is further proof of governments commitment to job creation adding that it is also in consonance with goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals which aims at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

He thanked the minister for the decision to site the project in Atebubu.

The Hon. Minister of Employment and Labor Relations also presented a brand new Toyota Hilux pick-up vehicle to the Atebubu-Amantin Labor Department.

Present were high ranking officials of the ministry of Employment and Labor Relations as well as the Labor Department.

The function was chaired by Nana Owusu Sah Kofi Nifahene of the Atebubu traditional area.
