Akrokerri Queen Mother Crowned Best Farmer

The queen mother of Akrokerri Traditional Area, Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II, has been honored as the 39th Best Farmer in the Adansi North District during this year's Farmers Day Celebration, which was held at Adansi Kusa. The theme of the event was "Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience." Her son accepted the award on her behalf, along with a tricycle and other farming tools.

Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II has a diverse agricultural portfolio, including 4000 layer birds in her poultry, 6 fish ponds with, 12,500 catfish and 8,500 tilapia, 15 acres of plantain, 1,200 rubber plantation. Involvement in vegetable farming, oil palm processing, and various other farming ventures.

During the ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Kusi Kwaku Eric, praised all farmers for their relentless efforts in ensuring the nation's food security. He emphasized the projected global population of 9.7 billion by 2050 and urged farmers to increase food production to meet this demand. The government has implemented programs such as Planting for Food and Job Phase II, free distribution of fertilizer, and other farm inputs, including seedlings like oil palm seedlings, to support food production.

The DCE also announced the completion of a cassava processing factory at Bobriase under the 1D1F initiative and encouraged farmers to cultivate more cassava to supply the factory when it becomes operational. He also called for a respectful election campaign and urged community members to vote in the upcoming Local Level Elections on December 19, 2023.

Mr. Prince Asare, the District Director for Agriculture, congratulated the farmers for their outstanding work and highlighted the department's use of improved agricultural technologies, which yielded positive results for the farmers. He emphasized the district's comparative advantage in oil palm production and the support provided to farmers for increased oil palm yield.

The awards Inspection and Monitoring Team recognized farmers in various categories, presenting awards to selected individuals:

27-year-old Christopher Obeng-Manu was awarded the best youth farmer Mr. Kojo Oduro was awarded the best physically challenged farmer

Madam Olivia Mensah Bonsu, who owns 35 acres of cocoa, 6 acres of oil palm, and 50 local poultry, emerged as the best female farmer.

The Farmers Day Celebration showcased the dedication and achievements of farmers, acknowledging their vital contributions to the agricultural landscape.
