Residents Express Optimism

Residents of rural and peri-urban Tamale recently expressed optimism about improvement in their living conditions following separate meetings Mayor Alhaji Abudulai Friday had with them at their respective Chief palaces.

The meetings were to afford Alhaji Harruna Friday the opportunity to assess conditions prevailing in the communities and also to introduce himself to them as the new Mayor for Tamale. Villages and communities he visited included Gbirima, Wovogu, Wovoguma, Taha, Gbalahi and Kpinagu.

The Mayor who also interacted with the chiefs and people of Kulaa, Saguli and Kpawumo said he intends to visit all villages and communities under the jurisdiction of  the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to assess areas that require urgent intervention.

Problems and Issues that run through all the speeches of all speakers at all meetings in the communities visited ranged from lack of access or bad roads to  lack of Electricity and lack of safe and portable water. 

Each of the communities visited was given a community needs and Data form to complete and return to the office of the Metropolitan Chief Executive for the necessary attention.

Addressing the people at separate meetings, Alhaji Abudulai Harruna Friday said even though it is the responsibility of the Metropolitan Assembly to ensure the general well being of its people, she alone can not do it without the support and co-operation of the beneficiaries and other development partners and therefore urged them to pay rates and fees in full and promptly to the Assembly. 

He said that in view of the overwhelming requests and demands from the people the Assembly will give priority attention to those that require urgent attention. 

He also assured them of an open and transparent administration and appealed to them to support him and the Assembly to succeed in their quest to develop Tamale.

He also appealed to them to stay clear of all lands in their respective communities earmarked for public use saying such attitudes drawback the clock of progress. Alhaji Abdulai Harruna Friday was accompanied on the visits by officials of the Assembly.

“Roads and Drainage facilities continue to attract the attention of residents. This is because houses get flooded each tine it rains, an indication that those places need drains and good access roads.” Those were the words of Hon. Alhaji Abudulai Harruna Friday, Mayor, on roads at a recent meeting of the Assembly.

According to him the increase in population and expansion of the city calls for a corresponding increase in those amenities and other facilities.

In this regard he said the Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with the Department of Urban Roads will sooner than later take the necessary action on the following roads.

They are: the old Karaga road, Gumani - Kanvilli road, Fuo main road, Relax Lodge - ward K road, Nyohini –Sawaba road and the Choggu low cost main road. 

The others are Village water and 2nd ring road, Moshie Zongo Area roads, Tishigu Area roads and Radach – Industrial Area road.
