Speaking on the morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi, Mr. Alhassan commended the government for the timely release of the Common Fund, noting that it has enabled assemblies to implement several development projects.

He explained that the prompt disbursement of the fund has empowered metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies to undertake important infrastructure and community development projects. However, he stressed that waste management continues to receive inadequate funding despite the increasing sanitation demands.

According to the MCE, many assemblies across the country have been able to execute projects due to improved access to the fund, with some districts already commissioning completed projects while others have ongoing developments.

Mr. Alhassan noted that the portion of the Common Fund allocated to district assemblies has helped the Asokore Mampong Municipality to undertake several projects, with some already completed and others currently under construction.

He therefore appealed to the government to consider increasing the allocation for waste management to enable assemblies to effectively tackle sanitation challenges in their respective jurisdictions.
