The training aimed to equip field officers with the requisite information on the curriculum’s key features, subject combinations, and implications for learners, parents, and stakeholders to enable them to support the public sensitisation campaign on the new SHS, SHTS, and STEM curriculum.

This new curriculum which is a standard-based and replaces the old objective-based curriculum, seeks to rebuild shared Ghanaians values, character, language and confidence, and engages pupils and students in critical thinking skills to enable them to demonstrate the previous knowledge and skills in the subsequent stages as they ascend the educational ladder.

Dr. Nafisa Mahama, the Acting Director of ISD in her welcome speech said the training workshop is to familiarize the ISD field officers with the New Secondary Education Curriculum, highlight key features and recommended subject combinations, and discuss implications for learners, parents, and stakeholders.

She urged the Information Officers to pay attention to the training to understand the programme better and to develop key messages that would better inform the general public and to demystify any misunderstanding the public might have on the new Secondary education curriculum Mrs. Rebecca Abu Gariba, Director of Corporate Affairs of NaCCA in her speech noted that situational analysis of the context for the Curriculum of the current SHS curriculum has created undue focus on memorization with emphasis on summative examination as the ultimate educational outcome to the detriment of critical thinking and problems solving.

She observed that the weaknesses influenced by traditional approaches to teaching and learning created rote learning approaches that lead to learners lacking the ability to analyze problems and find solutions to them.

Mrs. Rebecca noted that the new Secondary education Curriculum aims to equip learners with essential 21st-century skills, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the demands of modern life.

Mr. Isaac Yeboah, the Municipal Information officer for Sunyani West, a participant said the workshop has broadened his understanding better on the new curriculum structure and content. He also acquired Knowledge on assessment and evaluation methods of the new curriculum.
