Afigya Kwabre South celebrates Municipal status

The elevation of the assemblies aims to improve local governance and strengthen administrative capacity, aligning with the government’s commitment to decentralization and development across the country, Afigya Kwabre South District as one of the elevated assemblies on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024 inaugurated the newly constructed Assembly Administration block and the commissioning of a new Sports complex by the Regional Minister, Mr. Simon Osei Mensah.
In his inaugural address, the Regional Minister highlighted the government’s development policies for the entire nation particularly, the Ashanti Region.
He noted with concern that despite the government’s foresight in the sprouting projects he was always saddened to hear people with negative comments that the NPP government has failed to develop the Ashanti Region.
Mr. Osei Mensah touted the massive development projects executed by the government describing them as unprecedented since 1992. On the health sector, the Regional Minister disclosed the removal of the capitation in the Ashanti Region which hitherto had claimed many lives.
He further revealed that about six out of eight hospitals in Ashanti Region initiated by the previous government had been completed, pointing out that the remaining two hospitals at Sawua and Afari would be completed and commissioned before the end of the year.
Addressing the gathering, the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Christian Adu Poku indicated the elevation of Afigya Kwabre South District to Municipal status marks a significant milestone in the quest for accelerated development for the area.
He called on the constituents to appreciate the government’s untiring efforts to develop Afigya Kwabre South Municipality and should vote for Dr Bawumia for continuity of development projects.
Mr. Adu Poku commended the outgoing MP Hon. Owuraku and the traditional leaders for their immense contributions that led to the birth of the new Municipality.
The occasion chaired by Nana Yaw Barimah Peprah II, Kodiehene was attended by traditional and community leaders.
