The two-day conference, which is currently happening at the K. Nsiah-Gyabaah Hall at the Sunyani Technical University in the Bono Region is under the theme: “Empowering Local Governance: A New Dawn for Electoral Area Development.”

The conference, which creates opportunity for local authorities including Metropolitan, Municipal and Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Presiding and Assembly members to meet and deliberate on issues of local governance, decentralization and rural development, also affords members the opportunity to elect its executives to stee affairs of the Association.

Some positions that are currently up for grabs at this year’s conference include President, 1st vice, 2nd vice, trustees, women caucus and treasurer.

One strong contender for this year’s Presidency is the Presiding member for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Alfred Asiedu Agyei popularly known as Paa Joe.

Paa Joe, who contested in the 2022 elections but lost to Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh, the current president who also doubles as the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization, (NADMO), is contesting again and is hoping to go unopposed this time around.

In a brief interview with him ahead of the election, Paa Joe expressed high hopes of winning this year’s election considering the good initiatives and policies he had outlined to better the welfare of its members.

He pledged to introduce critical reforms in the local government sector to enhance decentralization, transparency, and efficiency.
