The initiative is aimed at desilting choked drains and rivers to ensure the free flow of water and safeguard lives and property in flood-prone communities.

Some residents have expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing exercise, noting that the desilting of rivers has already brought relief and renewed hope for reduced flooding this season.

Speaking on the development, the Municipal Engineer, Mr. William Amagatse, identified some of the affected areas where the exercise has been carried out, including the Effia River, the Anglican School area, and the Ayeele River. He emphasized that the intervention has already led to noticeable improvements in flood control within the municipality.

Mr. Amagatse further advised residents living along these waterways to adopt proper waste disposal practices and avoid dumping refuse into drains and rivers, as such actions contribute to blockages and increase the risk of flooding.

The Assembly’s proactive approach is expected to significantly reduce the impact of heavy rains and promote a safer environment for residents across the municipality.
