Maternity waiting house commissioned at Akateng
Two Japanese NGOs in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has commissioned a modern Maternity house at Akateng in the Upper Manya Krobo District.

In an interview with the local facilitator of the program Mrs. Patricia Kodjo said due to the bad nature of the roads and expectant mothers traveling across the Volta river to access anti- natal care, the facility will reduce the mortality rate which currently is on the rise in the catchment area.
According to her, the Akateng Maternity Waiting House is the first to be built in Ghana.
The Member of Parliament for the Upper Manya Krobo Comrade Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, who was the guest speaker, paid glowing tribute to JOICFP and SHIONOGI.
According to the MP, the district is very vast and deficient in infrastructural projects.
The MP assured the NGO of his readiness to support in the provision of more developmental projects that would impact positively on the lives of the constituents.
Present were the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Joe Sam, the Regional Director of Health Services, the Medical Superintendent of the Asesewa Government Hospital, Dr. Dovlo, the chief of Akateng, Nene Amanor Ossom 1 and Mr. Emmanuel Gbemu, who deputized for the District Director of Health Services.
