62 year old woman wins District best farmer

History was made in Atwima Mponua at the 39th Annual Farmers’ Day celebration in Nyinahin when Mrs. Evelyn Darkowaa Adom won the coveted award as the first female to chalk that feat.

Addressing the flamboyant gathering, Mr. Farouk Ahmed Owusu, the director of the Agric unit tasked farmers to embrace the second phase of planting for food and jobs (PFJ). He underscored government readiness to champion this phase with industrialization drive which will increase the yield of framers and create more employment. He also called on farmers to contact his office for any advise should there be the need.

Speaking on the theme “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience”, Hon. Isaac Kofi Marfo commended government on the various interventions which is farmer friendly in the country. He noted that, Government taking cognizance of farmers toil has increased the prices of Cocoa astronomically nationwide, provide health infrastructure in local communities and provided other social amneties for the benefit of farmers.

He advised farmers not to sell their lands for mining as that is reducing production of their yield in the district.

Akwasi Adjei, the Deputy GIADEC CEO who graced the occasion thanked Nyinahin for fighting to get what belong to Ghanaians. He assured the gathering that, Government will start exploration next year and investors are readily available.

Isaac Kwame Asiamah, the Member of Parliament gave farmers attaboy for producing enough to feed the country and the world. He stated that, Parliament is pushing hard for government to increase the prices of Cocoa to an unprecedented level to commensurate the toil of farmers. He pledged to make sure every Cocoa road in the district which is under contract is completed by next year. He advised farmers not to be swayed by rhetorics of the opposition since everything or any major infrastructure in the district was built by the NPP Government. “Nana chairman, I dare say, any infrastructure, from archeology-zoology in all the communities were done by a NPP government”, he posited. He thanked government for Agenda 111 which is at the roofing level, a completed NHIS office, ongoing Sports Compkex and Tanodumase Nursing and Midwifery Training college.

Mr. Asiamah donated 3 pieces of 43 inch colored TV to the District best farmer, best physically challenged farmer and the best female district farmer.

Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum II, Nyinahinhene, who was the chairman for the occasion commended the farmers. He advised the youth to take up farming business and stop wasting their energy on alcohol and smoking contraband substance which adds no value to their wellbeing. In addition, he bemoaned the ‘new-craze’ of betting which is eroding virtues in our communities. He also called on farmers not to sell their farms for pittance which can’t last them for long years.

Nana Boateng thanked Isaac Asiamah for bringing unprecedented development to Atwima Mponua. He admonished the youth to appreciate what the MP has achieved in the district. “I don’t understand why people berate the MP. He has done enough for the district. He is spreading development across the district; I don’t expect he bring everything to Nyinahin or Mpasatia alone. I doff my hat for him for lobbying for a Nursing and Midwifery college to his hometown in Tanodumase which is also part of Atwima Mponua”. He added.

In all, 23 farmers were honored with various consolation prizes. Mrs. Evelyn Darkowaa Adom won the overall best farmer to the admiration of all.
