Welcoming participants, the district director of the Commission, Mr. Frank Dzakpasu noted that the upcoming general elections present an opportunity to make choices and urged the public to get involved in it.

He asked them to desist from acts that could lead to violence. On the issue of misinformation and/disinformation, the district director advised the public to be wary of sharing fake news since it has the propensity to trigger electoral violence which could have dire consequences for the peace that we enjoy as a nation.

He therefore asked the public to verify news before sharing so as not to heighten tensions before, during and after the polls.

The Chairman of the IPDC, Nana Kofi Darko III, and the Chief Linguist of Prang pledged his support for any effort to ensure a peaceful election.

He urged everyone to be cautious of any attempts to influence voting decisions with money since it militates against the ability of citizens to demand accountability from elected officials.

The district electoral officer, Mr. Godfred Ayirebi Acheampong stressed the readiness of his outfit to deliver on its mandate and assured all of a smooth election.

He cautioned the public against extreme partisanship and asked them to see the Electoral Commission as an independent body ready to conduct a free, fair and transparent election in December.

Various speakers touched on a number of issues among which were the effects of misinformation, disinformation, electoral violence, religious tolerance and vote buying.

Representatives from 5 political parties namely: the New Patriotic Party, the National Democratic Congress, the Peoples National Convention, Ghana Union Movement and the Convention People's Party signed a commitment to peace and pledged to follow due processes in addressing grievances before, during and after the elections.

The meeting was graced by the Pru West district chief executive Hon. David Manu and Alhaji Osman Muawiya, the Zongo chief of Prang.

Also present were representatives of Christian and Muslim groups, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, traditional authorities and the Ghana Federation of the disabled.
