President Akufo-Addo releases list of MMDCE nominees

President Nana Akufo-Addo has today 19th September 19, 2021, released names of persons appointed to serve in the capacity as Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for all 260 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country.

The nominees, would however, require the support of not less than two-thirds of Assembly members in their respective assemblies in order to fully grab their positions as MMDCEs.

Their appointments come barely nine months after President Akufo-Addo was sworn-in to begin his second term of office as President of the Republic.

The government, had prior to this announcement explained that, the delay in appointing persons to MMDCEs positions was to ensure due diligence and also to afford it an opportunity to carefully scrutinize interested candidates to be able to come up with a list of persons who are equipped with the requisite knowledge and technical expertise to help drive home its development agenda.

Speaking at a Press briefing at the Ministry of Information today, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere and Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural development, Mr Dan Botwe congratulated the appointees while also appealing to them to do the bidding of the government when they eventually get the nod.

He said their appointment should be seen as clear indication of the President’s trust and faith in them to serve as the driving force behind the government’s numerous intervention programmes.

He said it was therefore imperative that the nominees work hard to reciprocate the confidence reposed in them by the president.

Meanwhile, all 260 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies have been directed to as a matter of urgency put plans in place to get the nominees confirmed on time to enable them assume office.
