Offinso North Celebrates 69th Independence Anniversary with Call for Patriotism

The Offinso North District Assembly has marked Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary with a call on citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s forebears and recommit to national development.

The colourful celebration, held at the Afrancho Methodist Junior High School Park, brought together a cross-section of the community, including security services, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and assembly members. Heads of department, development partners, students, and various youth groups were also in attendance, witnessing a march past by 17 schools from the primary, junior high, and senior high levels.

Delivering the keynote address, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North, Hon. Caesar Ofosu Acheampong, described the occasion as a time for deep reflection. He urged Ghanaians to honour the struggles of the country’s founding fathers, whose efforts paved the way for the nation’s independence.

"The anniversary should inspire us to take stock of how our country has been managed over the years," Hon. Ofosu Acheampong stated. "It is an opportunity to assess how best we can harness our resources to improve the well-being of our people."

The DCE acknowledged that governance approaches have varied under different administrations over the years. However, he noted that the current government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is pursuing a "Reset Agenda" aimed at repositioning the nation for sustainable development.

"This agenda calls on all citizens to reset their attitudes and strengthen their sense of patriotism," he explained. "It is a collective effort to support the government in transforming the economy and improving living conditions for everyone."

In a separate address, Mr. Martin Addo Fordjour, the District Director of Education, advised students to take their studies seriously and cultivate a strong sense of national pride to contribute meaningfully to the country's future.

He used the platform to appeal to the government, through the assembly, to address pressing infrastructural deficits in the district. "Our main challenge right now is the lack of adequate office and staff accommodation," Mr. Addo Fordjour noted. "I am calling for immediate action to improve this situation to facilitate effective teaching and learning."
