Mr. Geoffrey Nkum, the Presiding Member of the Gomoa East Assembly at a news conference, said although the population of the district had increased to over 309,000 with a voting public of over 100,000, it had only 12 assembly members.

He called on the Electoral Commission and the Local Government to create more electoral areas in the district, to assist in the extension of development to the communities.

Mr. Nkum said information reaching the Assembly indicated that the Local Government had released a list of district assemblies to be elevated to municipal status, but the Gomoa East District, whose population was far above some of the districts, was not included.

Nana Addo II, the Gyasehene of Gomoa in an interview emphasised that the population of the people in the area had become huge with a vast land size, which made it difficult for the Assembly to address their development concerns.

He pleaded to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to attend to their situation before leaving office.
