The two-week campaign, which commenced on July 15 and ended on July 30, 2025, aimed at educating the public on the purpose, importance, and processes of the GNHR exercise while mobilizing community participation across the region.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and in partnership with the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, the ISD undertook extensive public education activities in all six districts within the region. Over 200 communities were reached across the region during the campaign, with significant engagement recorded from both rural and peri-urban populations.
Throughout the sensitization period, ISD officers used community information centres, Information van, mobile public address systems, radio stations, and durbars to educate residents on the objectives of the GNHR. Residents were informed that the GNHR is a national data collection exercise designed to build a reliable household register to guide the implementation of social protection interventions.
As part of efforts to ensure quality delivery and consistency across the sensitization campaign, a monitoring team from the ISD Headquarters in Accra, Madam Bridget Mensah, Head of Access to Information Division and Madam Alfreda Kotey, toured the Ahafo Region to supervise and assess the work carried out by district information officers.
The monitoring visit formed a crucial part of the department’s accountability and quality assurance process. The team engaged directly with officers on the ground, observed various sensitization activities including mobile announcements, community meetings, and information van campaigns, and interacted with residents to gather feedback on the effectiveness of the messages being delivered.
According to the monitoring team, they were impressed by the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by the district officers, as well as the high level of community participation across all six districts. They commended the Ahafo Regional ISD Directorate for coordinating the campaign efficiently and ensuring that the key messages of the Ghana Household Registry were well communicated.
The team also took note of challenges reported by field officers, including difficult terrain and the need for more logistical support. These insights, they noted, would be compiled into a final report to guide future campaigns and improve operational strategies for nationwide public education efforts.
The monitoring team also used the opportunity to register concerns and challenges community members faced in previous or ongoing social intervention programmes. According to officials, this feedback would be relayed to the appropriate authorities for prompt redress.
The Ahafo Regional ISD Director, Mr. Kombat Bassum Maxwell expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including the monitoring team from Accra, District Assemblies, traditional leaders, and local opinion leaders, whose support made the campaign a success. He urged community members to cooperate fully with enumerators when they arrive to collect household data, stressing that accurate data collection is critical for equitable and evidence-based policymaking.
The GNHR enumeration exercise continues, and residents across the region are being encouraged to make themselves available and provide truthful information to the field officers when approached.
