Officials urge communities to prioritize maintenance as new school block and CHPS compounds are handed over in Ayonya, Wela, and Attakrom.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kintampo South, Madam Felicia Adjei, and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Wilfred Zuuri, have commissioned three new projects in the health and education sectors across the Kintampo South District.

The commissioning events, held in the communities of Ayonya, Wela, and Attakrom, drew staff from the Education Directorate, the Health Service, District Assembly officials, traditional leaders, community members, and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Education Director Commends Government

Speaking at the ceremonies, the Kintampo South District Education Director, Mr. Kwasi Opoku, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the MP, and the DCE for their investment in education.

He noted that the resources used for the new school block could have been allocated to other developmental projects, emphasizing that the government’s decision to prioritize education demonstrates its commitment to the future of the district's youth.

Mr. Opoku, however, raised concerns about the falling standards of education in the area, revealing that many pupils, even in Class Four, are unable to read. He described the situation as "very bad and below standard," calling on teachers to work harder.

He promised the chiefs and people of the beneficiary communities that he would prioritize teacher deployment, ensuring more educators are posted to the school to match the growing student population. He also vowed to personally ensure the new building is properly maintained.

Health Director Calls for Community Support

The Kintampo South Health Director, Mr. Bikman Duut Nyunmon, also commended the government and local leaders for their role in improving healthcare infrastructure.

He tasked the chiefs and residents of the communities to take ownership of the new CHPS compounds by employing night watchmen and cleaners, as well as digging pits for refuse and placenta disposal.

Mr. Nyunmon expressed satisfaction with the government’s initiative to bring free primary health care to the doorstep of rural communities, particularly in the Kintampo South District.

DCE Promises More Development

Mr. Wilfred Zuuri, the DCE, described the commissioned projects as "just the beginning" of the government's development agenda for the area.

He stated that President Mahama has numerous projects in the pipeline for Ghanaians, including road networks, urban development initiatives, and improvements in other sectors. He urged constituents to continue voting for the NDC to ensure more development.

Mr. Zuuri also advised the communities to adopt a strong maintenance culture to attract additional projects.

MP Addresses Social Issues

Madam Felicia Adjei, the MP, thanked the chiefs and people for their support during the last election, describing the projects as "the product of your vote."

She urged the communities to maintain the new facilities and took the opportunity to address pressing social issues affecting students. She spoke out against drug abuse, teacher absenteeism, and sexual harassment.

The MP issued a strong warning against inappropriate relationships between teachers and students, specifically mentioning cases of teachers dating schoolchildren and sexual activity in classrooms. She warned that any teacher found guilty of such acts would face dismissal and prosecution.

Madam Felicia also assured the communities that plans were underway to address mobile network challenges in the area. She noted that while government road projects do not typically cover feeder roads, efforts would be made to improve the Drip machines and other local infrastructure.

Community Appeals

Chiefs and residents of the three communities expressed their gratitude for the new projects but used the occasion to appeal for more resources. Their requests included additional teachers, an extension of electricity and meters, and the posting of more health workers.

At each stop, the MP distributed branded exercise books to support the pupils.
