The facility was commissioned by the Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, as part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare infrastructure and improve timely access to critical medical services for residents across the district.
The newly commissioned ward has been equipped with essential clinical equipment, including patient-monitoring systems and infusion equipment, to support the assessment, stabilisation and continuous monitoring of patients requiring emergency attention.
The facility complements the hospital’s existing 24-hour emergency service, as well as a range of diagnostic and clinical services, including laboratory services, X-ray, ultrasound and surgical care.

Speaking at the commissioning, Mrs. Awatey noted that the new ward would significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to respond to emergencies and provide timely care to residents.
She said the facility was particularly important for communities across the district where long distances and transportation challenges could sometimes delay access to critical medical services.
The Regional Minister commended the District Chief Executive for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Hon. Kate Mawusi Babanawo, for her commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and supporting development projects that directly respond to the needs of residents.
She said investments in healthcare infrastructure remained crucial to ensuring that residents, irrespective of their location, could access quality and timely medical attention when needed.
The commissioning of the Accident and Emergency Ward is therefore expected to strengthen emergency response at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital while improving the overall quality of healthcare delivery in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.
The development represents another important step towards building a more responsive healthcare system capable of meeting the growing needs of communities across the district.
