Like many other women in the developing world, the practice of breast cancer screening among Ghanaian women is unsatisfactory. As a result, many cases are diagnosed at advanced stages leading to poor outcomes including mortalities.
An understanding of the awareness and predictors of breast examination is an important first step that may guide the design of interventions aimed at raising awareness across the general population.
In 2018, 2.1 million incident cases of breast cancer were diagnosed worldwide (second most common cancer overall after lung cancer) representing nearly 12% of all incident cancer cases and an estimated 627,000 deaths were expected to occur globally.
