Kwame Danso unrest: IGP orders closure of Sene West Police Station after mob attack

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, when police officers escorted a suspect to the Kwame Danso District Court for proceedings. Some youth reportedly attacked the officers and judicial service personnel during the incident.

Following the attack, the Bono East Regional Police Command temporarily shut down the station as it assessed the security situation and took steps to restore calm.

The Regional Police Command has since confirmed that calm has returned to the area, while engagements are ongoing with relevant stakeholders to determine when normal policing operations can resume.

The Bono East Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, described the incident as unfortunate and appealed to residents to support security agencies rather than attack police officers and other state officials performing their duties.

The development comes amid renewed concerns over attacks on Ghana's justice and security institutions. In a separate incident in December 2025, a mob attacked the Kwame Danso District Court and Police Headquarters, freeing accused persons and damaging property.
