In an interview with the MCE, he shared that according to the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), the assembly has been tasked with overseeing all developmental projects in the district. The progress of these projects depends on the availability of funds, which is why they prioritize generating enough Internal Generated Funds (IGF).
He mentioned that during their awareness campaigns, they discovered that around 90% of the citizens were unaware of their obligation to pay property rates and taxes. This lack of awareness often led to conflicts between tax collectors and the citizens.
Furthermore, Mr. Boadu emphasized that their revenue mobilization endeavors yielded positive outcomes, enabling them to procure a three-bed capacity health facility for the betterment of Osenase's residents.
Moreover, he mentioned that they actively engaged with local farmers by visiting various farms to raise awareness and provide education on effective farming practices. These initiatives are typically carried out in collaboration with the Agricultural Director.
The MCE stressed that while the assembly may not always construct large-scale facilities, they prioritize capacity building and sensitization programs for those responsible for managing such facilities. This approach ensures that the personnel can efficiently deliver their services to the community.
Mr. Seth Oduro Boadu expressed optimism that as a result of these awareness campaigns, the Assembly would be able to increase tax collection compared to previous years.
He also took the opportunity to inform the residents of the West Akim Municipality that their funds are being utilized effectively, despite their lack of awareness due to their infrequent attendance at stakeholder engagement events where accountability is provided.
