The result has kept Ghana’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stage firmly alive.
Moments after the final whistle, the township came alive as enthusiastic supporters poured onto the streets, blowing vuvuzelas, honking vehicle horns, dancing, and singing patriotic songs in celebration of the Black Stars’ spirited performance.
Many football fans described the outcome as a significant morale booster against one of the tournament’s favourites and praised the team for its discipline, determination, and solid defensive display throughout the match.
Mr. Godsway Dorhame, a football enthusiast, said that the Black Stars exhibited courage and tactical discipline against a formidable English side.
“We knew England would enjoy most of the possession, but our players remained focused and defended resolutely. This draw feels like a victory because it has kept our qualification hopes alive,” he said.
Another supporter, Mr. Samuel Gyapong, commended the players for their fighting spirit and confidence.
“They showed the world that Ghana can compete with any football nation. If they maintain this level of performance, I believe they can advance to the next stage of the competition,” he said.
Ms. Delight Akey, a passionate supporter, said the result had brought joy and renewed hope to many Ghanaians.
“We are proud of the Black Stars. They made us happy tonight, and we hope they will build on this performance in their final group match,” she stated.
Residents who watched the game at various viewing centres across the town said the atmosphere remained tense throughout the encounter, but excitement erupted at the final whistle as supporters celebrated what they described as a valuable point earned against England.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to their final Group L fixture, where a victory could significantly enhance their chances of securing a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
