Mr. John Essah Amissah, the Takoradi Area Manager of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), who disclosed this to journalists during a tour of the project site, said so far, some concretes, bridge, pavements and earthen works had been done at some sections of the road, with others ongoing to ensure a successful completion of the project.
The project, which commenced in March this year and expected to be completed in 36 months, is being executed by the Justmoh Construction Limited, with funding from the GCB Bank PLC.
He explained that the scope of the reconstruction of the N1 road included the rehabilitation of an existing 3.8-kilometre dualised portion from Takoradi to Apremdo, and two major bridges at Ewusiejoe and Apremdo.
Others were the construction of additional lanes to dualise the stretch from Apremdo to Agona Nkwanta, culverts, walkways and medians among others.
Mr. Amissah expressed the hope that the reconstruction works would be completed within the stipulated timelines to help ease traffic congestion on the road, while facilitating socio-economic activities.
Dr. Justice Amoh, the Chief Executive Officer of Justmoh Construction Limited, gave the assurance that his team would work assiduously to ensure the project met its deadlines.
He said, “So far, looking at our programmes, we are very much on course and progress is very good, and we have adopted some strategies to increase production by working through extended hours”.
He implored commuters and residents who plied the road to cooperate with the contractors while they worked on site, saying they must bear with them as they could experience some inconveniences before work could be done.
Dr Amoh urged community members and road users to comply with safety directives, by obeying the signages and diversions, as well as other traffic rules to help the contractors to speed up the work.
