The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality is located in the Greater Accra Region. It is one of the 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region and was created in 2012 as part of the newly created Assemblies aimed at deepening decentralization and bringing development to the door step of citizens.
La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2131 and inaugurated in June 2012. It was carved out of the Ga East Municipality. The La Nkwantanang -Madina Municipality is located at the northern part of the Greater Accra Region. It covers a total land surface area of 70.887 square kilometers.
It is bordered on the West by the Ga East Municipal, on the East by the Adentan Municipal, the South by Accra Metropolitan Area and the North by the Akwapim South District (see figure 1.1). La Nkwantanang Madina Municipality is generally urban (84percent). This chapter describes the physical features, political and administrative structure, social and cultural structure and economy and living conditions prevalent in the Municipality.
