Population (Structure)
Agotime-Ziope District has a population of 62,852 (2010 Population and Housing Census). The females constitute about 54.2 percent whiles the males constitute 45.8 percent. The District annual growth rate is 1.17 percent. The most densely populated areas are Kpetoe, Ziope, and Akpokope. The average household size in these settlements is 4.8.
Labour Force
People within the ages of 15 and 64 make up the District labour force. According to the 2010 population and housing census, 52.3 percent of the population falls within this age cohort. However, as a result of increasing poverty among the people in the District, children between the ages of 10-14 are highly engaged in active labour force. However, the ILO/IPEC programme.
The district’s natural environment is seriously affected by the following:
- Inappropriate farming practices, for example farming on land around water courses;
- Illegal hunting and farming within reserves (i.e. Kalakpa Game Reserve);
- Destruction of the forest by annual bush fires; and
- Charcoal, firewood and timber production have prompted indiscriminate felling of trees.
