SECURITY

 Police

The district has only one (1) Police station located in the district capital.   It used to be a Police Post and was recently upgraded to a District Police Headquarters. Hence a District Police Commander has been posted to the District.    However, considering the upsurge of drug abuse by the youth in most of the communities in  the  District,  there is the need for the  establishment of Police

Outposts at least in the sub-district capitals in order to stem the tide of drug abuse among the youth and other offences such as armed robbery, rape etc. In addition, considering the fact that the district shares borders with neighbouring Burkina Faso makes this demand very obvious. This also calls for the provision of additional infrastructure both for office and residential. It also requires the posting of additional Police Officers to the district. Currently, there are only seven (7) Police Officers in the District, some of whom are without accommodation. The police also lack means of transport to effect arrest of criminals.

Fire Service

The Bongo District Fire Station was opened in 1993 with staff strength of six (6) in a structure formally used by P&T Company Ltd. The Station was relocated to its present location in 2003. The station as at 2006 has a staff strength of thirty-one (31) personnel.

Office Accommodation

There is the need to put up a new Modern Fire Station to befit the status of the Bongo District. Already, an area was allocated to the Service for the construction of both residential and office accommodation. However the land was not acquired hence individuals have encroached on it.

Equipment for Fire fighting

The only available fire tender in the district is an old Renault Water Tender which, frequently breaks down. There is therefore the need for a new dual purpose tender accompanied by its accessories to cover the District. There therefore the need tomake provision for fire hydrants to be installed to facilitate easy supply of water for emergency purposes.

Communication Facilities

There is no communication facilities at the Fire Station. With regards to our duties, there is the need for the provision of communication gadgets to enable us transmit and receive messages and act on them promptly in case of emergency. Besides communication equipment, the personnel of the station have no mmens of transport to facilitate their work.
