Shiabu Fisherfolk to Relocate for Sea Defence, Fish Market Projects
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, George Kpakpo Allotey, has engaged members of the local fishing community over plans to relocate them from the Shiabu coastal belt to pave the way for the ongoing 5-kilometre Gbegbeyise-Shiabu Sea Defence Wall Project and the construction of the ultra-modern Shiabu Fish Market.

The MCE explained that the relocation is intended to support the development of the modern fish market while creating opportunities to expand local economic activities and improve public health and sanitation within the area..jpg)
As part of efforts to complement the sea defence project, the Assembly has also deployed task forces to undertake decongestion and demolition exercises along the coastline.
The exercise is aimed at removing structures in crime-prone coastal areas and clearing illegal dumping sites that have contributed to pollution along the Shiabu beachfront and posed health and safety concerns for residents and fish traders.
