The MCE explained that the relocation is intended to support the development of the modern fish market while creating opportunities to expand local economic activities and improve public health and sanitation within the area.

As part of efforts to complement the sea defence project, the Assembly has also deployed task forces to undertake decongestion and demolition exercises along the coastline.

The exercise is aimed at removing structures in crime-prone coastal areas and clearing illegal dumping sites that have contributed to pollution along the Shiabu beachfront and posed health and safety concerns for residents and fish traders.
