Graphic Communications Group holds ‘sanitation dialogue’ in Koforidua
Graphic Communications Group limited in collaboration with the Zoomlion Ghana limited has organized a programme dubbed “Graphic/Zoomlion sanitation dialogue” in Koforidua to discuss challenges associated with poor sanitation and its preventive measures in the country.

The dialogue sponsored by Zoomlion Ghana brought together key stakeholders from the various sectors of the economy to discuss the way forward of the sanitation situation with the theme “Keep Ghana clean”.
Delivering his opening remarks, the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng; who served as the chairman applauded the two entities for initiating the move on sanitation dialogue, which to him, so many communities faces serious health problems in the country.
To him, the initiative forms part of the Council’s community development efforts within the implementation strategy of the global Root-based development Model (RBM) dubbed “Operation Clean Communities” which is akin to the theme: “Keep Ghana Clean”.
“The success or failure of any health programme is determined by the public’s acceptance and proper use of the services offered. That’s why community involvement is considered to be an extremely crucial component for any optimal control programmes of these diseases. However, it is imperative for us as a country to have a plan to establish a high degree of community involvement”, Daasebre noted.
The Omanhene highlighted that the appropriate community involvement, the long term solution for the control of these diseases lies in economic development and universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. He was quick to add that, such interventions also prevent a wide range of other water-borne illnesses, as well as contributing to achieving goals related to poverty, malnutrition and education.
He further called for the initiation of coordinated efforts by all stakeholders-government, root-based institutions, Traditional Leaders, MMDAS, other faith-based organizations to mount serious periodic health education programmes on sanitation and general hygienic protocols.
“I believe such education should focus on the best hygienic practices by all households in eliminating all stagnant water in and around the house ad workplaces, observing the best ways of dumping refuse, dislodging choked drains, and possibly embarking on fumigation in all communities” He admonished.
The Public Relations Officer of Zoomlion in the Eastern Region, Adam Mahama gave a power point presentation that encapsulated all efforts, interventions and projects being undertaken by the company he represents in the quest for achieving proper sanitation in the country. He emphasized that Zoomlion is committed to ensure the development of the sanitary conditions in the Region and has put in place measures in order to make this a reality.
He stated that bins are to be provided for the various households, the construction of a recycling plant in the region has been commenced, and various personnel have been deployed to the various areas in the region to initiate the sanitation process.
On his part, the News Editor of the Graphic Comm. Ltd. Reiterated to company’s commitment to earmark this year to drive awareness and education on improve sanitation nationwide. Mr. Asmah called on all Assemblies to ensure on strict enforcement of sanitation bye-laws and the need to name and shame people who flout sanitation laws.
He emphasized that the brain behind the sanitation dialogue is to complement the national sanitation campaign effort in order to clean the entire country. “It is expected of the individuals to put up the best sanitation practice so as to achieve a goal” he said.
To achieve effective and clean environment in the country, there is the need for all hand to be on deck so that holistically we can deal with non-conformers and punish them accordingly.
Demanding accountability from leaders alone cannot yield any result but rather the time has come for us as a country to contribute our quota by way of cleaning our environment devoid of filth so that Ghana will be free from common diseases.
“let’s make everyday a sanitation day to help clean Ghana” he admonished.
The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South, Hon. Isaac Appaw–Gyasi, who delivered the key note address on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong commended that the organizers of the programme, saying the quest to improve environmental sanitation in the region and the country at large cannot be over emphasized because it has a direct correlation of the health of the people.
He echoed that government is committed to deploy over five hundred (500) trucks to the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies help fight the sanitation canker.
Present at the programme were the Medical Superintendent at the Eastern Regional Health Hospital, Dr. Akoto Akuoko Ampaw, the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Professor Oti Boateng, Head of Communication at the Zoomlion Ghana ltd, Adams Mahama, the New Editor Graphic Communication Group, Kobby Asmah, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Appaw-Gyasi among others.
