Yagbonwura grateful to government for the development of Savannah Region

The Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has expressed his profound gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo-led Administration for the unprecedented developmental projects implemented in the Savannah Region over the past seven years.

The revered traditional ruler thanked the President for his instrumental role in creating the Savannah Region and resolving the several chieftaincy disputes that hindered development of the area.

Yagbonwura Bii-Kutuno Soale thanked the President during a grand durbar in Damongo on Monday, October14, 2024, in the Savannah Region.

The people of the Gonjaland, comprising of Chiefs, Assembly Members, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Members of Parliament, the Clergy and Imams as well as the rank and file of the NPP supporters celebrated the President for the various development interventions in the region.

In a speech read on his behalf, Yagbonwura Bii-kunuto Soale, expressed the gratitude of his people to the President for the enormous impact his administration made in the region.

“President Akufo-Addo has etched his name in Gonja history as the president who granted Gonjaland their utmost desire by creating the Savannah Region,” he said.

The Chief testified that since the creation of the Savannah Region, they had observed massive developments in areas of education, healthcare, agriculture and road infrastructure, “adding that the people of Gonjaland had indeed experienced significant elevation because of this.

In a riveting address, President Akufo-Addo thanked the Yagbonwura and expressed his gratitude to the people of Gonjaland and all Ghanaians for their unflinching support under his presidency.

He acknowledged the role that the Yagbonwura played as one of the three eminent chiefs that mediated the Dagbon chieftaincy disputes, to bring peace and harmony into that traditional area.

The President touted his government’s track record and mentioned several developmental projects initiated in the area including healthcare, education, agriculture, and road infrastructure.

“I have honoured my promise of becoming an agent of development for the Gonja people,” he said and thanked Ghanaians for the honour of making him their President not once but twice.

“I came to thank you all for your support and encouragement and to say goodbye,” the President said, amid shouts and cheers from the audience.

The Member of Parliament for Damongo, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, also the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, touted the achievements of President Akufo-Addo’s Administration in the Region as “unmatched”.

He said since President Akufo-Addo took the reins of government in 2017, his administration had undertaken several projects in the areas of education, healthcare, road infrastructure, water projects and other social interventions.

“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assumed a legendary status in the eyes of the Gonja people by granting the request for a region which they have been asking long before even Ghana attained independence.

Mr. Jinapor said the people of the Savannah Region and Gonjaland had been fighting for a region since the 19th century and had petitioned all presidents under the Fourth Republic, but it was President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo who finally created the Savannah Region.

“This is part of the Akufo-Addo legacy, today and forever. We will welcome you to the region any time,” he said.

He explained that in addition to creating the region, the government had brought unparalleled development in all facets of human life including education, healthcare, agriculture, road infrastructure.
