According to him, the district’s strong agricultural base provides a solid foundation for industrial development, particularly through the processing and value addition of locally produced agricultural commodities.

In an interview with Ghanadistricts.TV during the Eastern Expo in Koforidua, Hon. Joshua Lartey noted that with a significant proportion of the district’s workforce engaged in agriculture, there was a need to move beyond the production and sale of raw materials and promote local manufacturing.

He identified cassava and oil palm as key areas with significant potential for industrialisation.

Mr. Lartey said the Assembly would explore partnerships with local commercial groups, including gari producers at Amanase-Aboabo, to scale up the production of fortified food products and create opportunities for value addition.

He also highlighted the potential for establishing oil palm processing plants, particularly following the distribution of improved oil palm seedlings to farmers across the district.

Hon. Lartey further stressed the importance of storage infrastructure in supporting industrial development, saying government-backed warehouses could help aggregate farm produce, reduce post-harvest losses and ensure a reliable supply of raw materials for processing plants.

He said the development of an industrial hub in Ayensuano would not only create jobs and expand economic opportunities but also provide a sustainable market for farmers and stimulate local economic growth.

The DCE restated his commitment to working with stakeholders and development partners to transform Ayensuano’s agricultural potential into sustainable industrial development.
